enjoy a bedazzled heart

covered in plastic

flashy and fake.

All these beads stick to me and my heart is too sensitive for them.

You try to rip the jewels off because they’re cheap and you hate them,

but it hurts too much, and I pull away.

I don’t have expensive taste. The glue is just so strong.

rhinestones come off of my hands and onto the steering wheel whenever I drive

I weave in and out of the carpool lane

across the double yellow lines which just look red to me.

rhinestones come off of my feet in the soles of shoes that I try on at the store.

Everyone that tries them on after me has to step on them -

glittery rocks in their shoes that they don’t want.

Sometimes the jewels start to peel off,

but the more they dangle, the more they hurt, the worse they look,

the more I’m hooked, the more we work.
